Johannesburg / Jaipur, October 13 (JaisalmerNews.com):
A 20-year-old trainee pilot from Rajasthan, Piyush Pushp, tragically lost his life in a training aircraft crash in South Africa, authorities confirmed on Monday.

According to reports from NDTV and South African local media, the accident took place near Vulcan Aviation Institute, where Piyush was undergoing advanced pilot training. The light aircraft went down shortly after take-off during a solo flight exercise.

Officials from the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, which early indications suggest could be due to an engine malfunction.

Piyush, originally from Jaipur district, had moved to South Africa in early 2024 after completing his 12th standard, with dreams of becoming a commercial pilot. His family described him as “a bright and ambitious young man passionate about aviation since childhood.”

The Indian Embassy in Pretoria has confirmed that they are in close touch with local authorities and assisting in the process of repatriating the mortal remains to India. The embassy has also reached out to the family for documentation and coordination with airlines.

Several aviation students and alumni from India studying in South Africa expressed grief on social media, calling for stricter safety checks in training academies.

The tragedy has once again raised questions about foreign flight school safety protocols, particularly concerning maintenance and supervision of solo training sorties.
