In Nigeria, at least 18 people were killed and more than 40 others injured in a series of suicide bomb attacks in the northeastern state of Borno, yesterday. Barkindo Saidu, the Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency reported that the tragic incident involve suspected female suicide bombers, targeting a wedding, a funeral, and a hospital. The first explosion disrupted a wedding ceremony, followed shortly by another blast at General Hospital Gwoza. Another suicide bomber denoted an improvised explosive device at a busy motor park, he added.
Police had deployed armed personnel to cordon off the area while investigating the incident. Military has also imposed a curfew. 18 deaths have been confirmed so far, including children, adults and pregnant women. Local media reported that the death toll could be higher, close to 30. The injured were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the bomb attack.
