At Least 179 Die, 33 Still Missing In Brazil After Flooding And Landslides

At least 179 people dead and 33 people are still missing in Brazil after flooding and landslides wreaked havoc in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. State’s civil defence agency said that around 90 per cent of the southern state is affected from flood and landslides due to overflowed Guaiba River. According to the agency’s latest report, in last two months, unprecedented severe weather affected over 2.39 million inhabitants and more than four lakh and 50 thousand people had to be evacuated.

Rio Grande do Sul, an agricultural and livestock powerhouse located on the border with Argentina and Uruguay, saw more than 89,000 residents and 15,000 animals rescued with the help of soldiers and local volunteers.
