In Tamil Nadu, 18 people died and more than 70 are undergoing treatment at Kallakurichi and Salem government hospitals after allegedly consuming illicit liquor in Kallakurichi. District Collector Sravan Kumar Jatvath said that the cause of death is yet to be ascertained. Most of the labourers had complained of giddiness, stomach pain and irritation in the eyes. More than ten were referred to the nearby Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research Puducherry for advanced treatment. State Health Minister M. Subramaniam has rushed to the hospital. An inquiry has been ordered in the case.
