Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Holds High-Level Meeting to Address Recent Calamity

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang held a high-level meeting at Mintokgang Gangtok to address a recent calamity that caused significant property damage and disrupted road connectivity, power, food supply, and mobile networks.

Officials provided detailed briefings on the damage, highlighting critical road and bridge disruptions, and discussed immediate relief measures including emergency services and essential supplies distribution.
 

The Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite restoration efforts and continuously assess affected areas to prioritize critical issues. He urged the public to stay alert, follow safety guidelines, and cooperate with authorities to overcome the crisis.
 

Additionally, the Rural Development Department launched a helpline (76026-73187) for disaster-related emergencies in rural areas, with Mr. Pravin Chettri as the officer in charge, to provide timely assistance during the monsoon season. Residents are advised to avoid high-risk areas and stay informed about weather forecasts.
 

C.S. Rao, Principal Secretary of the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, confirmed that 1200 domestic and 15 foreign tourists stranded in Lachung in North Sikkim due to road blockages are safe with adequate food supplies.
 

Evacuation plans include potential airlifting or road evacuation, coordinated with local authorities.
