Conference titled ‘India’s Progressive Path in the Administration of Criminal Justice System’ on the three new criminal laws was inaugurated in Mumbai today. Speaking at the inaugural session, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the emphasis of new Criminal laws coming into effect tomorrow, lay stress on providing ‘justice’ in contrast to colonial legislations where focus was on ‘punishment’.
 
 
Mr. Meghwal said the new laws have been constituted after extensive consultation with stakeholders including lawmakers, legislators, academia and common public. The aim of the conference is to generate awareness about the three new criminal laws, ‘The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023’, ‘The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023’, and ‘The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023’ among all the stakeholders including Judges, Prosecutors, Advocates, Officers of Law Enforcement and Investigating Agencies, District Administration Officials, Academia and students of law and citizens.
 

Chief Justice, Bombay of High Court, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Dr. Rajiv Mani among others were present in the inaugural session of the conference.
