Tennis: Italy’s Jannik Sinner Defeats Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann In First Round Of Men’s Singles In Wimbledon Championship

In the Wimbledon Tennis Championship, Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, faced a tough challenge in the first round of Men’s Singles but remained calm to defeat German Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Earlier, Norwegian eighth seed Casper Ruud eased past Australian qualifier Alex Bolt 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.
 
 
Canadian Denis Shapovalov beat Chilean 19th seed Nicolas Jarry 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 while Bulgarian 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov defeated Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 to reach the second round. India’s Sumit Nagal lost to Serbian player Miomir Kecmanovic 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 in the first round last night.
 

In the Women’s Singles, 2nd-seeded American player Coco Gauff and Ninth-seeded Maria Sakkari of Greece have reached the second round. Gauff defeated Caroline Dolehide 6-1, 6-2 in an all-American clash while Maria Sakkari beat Mccartney Kessler of the United States, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. The Wimbledon Tennis Championship began at the All England Club in London yesterday.
