In the UEFA European Football Championship, knock-out stages began yesterday. In the first pre-quarterfinal, Defending champions Italy suffered a stunning exit after a 2-nil defeat to Switzerland in Berlin last night. Remo Freuler opened the scoring in the 37th minute, and Ruben Vargas swiftly added another just after halftime, securing Switzerland’s place in the quarter-finals.
 

In another match, Germany triumphed over Denmark with a similar 2-Nil scoreline in a dramatic and controversial game in Dortmund last night. Kai Havertz broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a penalty, while Jamal Musiala compounded Denmark’s woes with a goal in the 68th minute. Earlier, the match was interrupted for 20 minutes during the first half due to a thunderstorm. Tonight, England will clash with Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen, while Spain takes on Georgia in Cologne. Pre-quarters will continue till Wednesday, with quarter-final action commencing on Friday.
