Union Minister Jual Oram Addresses National Conclave On Sickle Cell Disease Awareness

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram today said that the biggest misconception about sickle cell disease is that it only affects Tribal people. Addressing a national conclave on awareness generation on Sickle Cell Disease at AIIMS New Delhi, Mr Oram said that more and more people should be aware of the disease as it can affect anyone. He said that the treatment should be viewed from a human development lens. The Minister added that ground level work at Gram Panchayats and Angandwadi is necessary to check the disease. He also said that inter-disciplinary cooperation is vital as many ministries and departments are often unaware of the challenges.
 
Mr Oram also interacted with patients of Sickle Cell Disease at the event.
 
Talking to Akashwani News, Professor of Haemotology Dr Prabhash Mishra said that cost-effective screening tests for Sickle Cell Disease should be provided at peripheral areas for early detection.
 
Speaking with Akashwani News, Haemoto-oncologist, Dr Dinesh Pendarkar said people with sypmtomps of Sickle Cell Disease should immediately visit to their nearest healthcare center.
 
The National Conclave on Awareness Generation on Sickle Cell Disease is a one day conclave featuring top hematology experts in the nation to discuss on treatment and research on Sickle Cell Disease.
