Indian equity benchmarks, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) are closed today. This is due to the fifth voting phase for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 in Mumbai, marking the second holiday of the month. There was a special trading session on Saturday last week to offset today’s holiday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the “remarkable” turnaround in the health of India’s banking sector after net profit crossed Rs 3 lakh crore for the first time in FY24. The net profit of listed public and private sector banks rose 39% to Rs 3.1 lakh crore from Rs 2.2 lakh crore in FY23.

Positive domestic markets and the expectation of fresh foreign inflows made the Rupee appreciate in the forex market today. The rupee appreciated 17 paise to close at 83 rupees and 33 paise against the US dollar on Friday. 

Gold price witnessed a slight increase today. The Precious Metal, for 5th June 2023 contract was trading at 73,070 rupees per 10 grams.   Silver for 5th July 2023 contract also increased today and trading at 87,719 rupees per Kilogram, when reports last came in.
